Mr. Alfred "Butch" Furtado, age 76, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Monday, May 13th, 2024, at a local hospital.
Mr. Furtado was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on June 14th, 1947, to the late August Furtado and the late Elsie Marceline Furtado. Mr. Furtado was a lifelong honored and committed public servant. He served his country and fellow citizens as an Army Reservist where he was a Specialist Fourth Class before his honorable discharge. After serving his country, Mr. Furtado went into public service with the Fall River, Massachusetts Police Department, until his retirement. After moving to Florida, he continued to help others by working for the local Public Defender’s Office. His passion for helping others was a legacy. After retirement, his focus shifted to his grandchildren. His devoted love for them was prevalent, and the time he spent with them making memories was his favorite pastime. When he was taking an occasional off day, you’d find him cheering on his favorite sports teams, the New England Patriots in the fall/winter or the Boston Red Sox in the spring/summer season.
Mr. Furtado is survived by two sons, Matthew (Krystle) Furtado and Andrew (Catherine) Furtado; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Maci, and Shelbi; mother of his children, Gail Furtado; extended family and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, May 16th, 2024, at 1:30PM at Chandler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 16th from 11 AM until 1 PM at the funeral home.
