Billy Joe Fisher, of Rome, GA passed away at his home on July 17 at the age of 88.
Born in Union Co. Ky on May 8, 1935, he was the middle child of the late Harold
N. and Mariana (Chandler) Fisher and grew up in the small town of Morganfield,
KY.
Bill served in the United States Army at Fort Knox, KY and the US Army Reserve of
KY from 1958-1964. Bill started his 28-year career with General Electric Co. as a
service technician in Louisville, KY. Over the years, his job took him and his family
to the states of Illinois, Virginia and then Florida where he retired as a consumer
service zone manager for the Miami region. After retiring, he moved with family
to Rome, GA where he lived for the last 29 years.
An avid golfer for most of his adult life, Bill played the game he loved so much
well into his 80’s. Bill was hardworking, resourceful, thrifty and handy. He took
great pride in caring for his home and yard and found joy in fishing, watching the
birds from his deck, listening to music or just spending time with family, friends
and neighbors. Bill will be remembered for his fun, friendly ways and his quick
wit.
Bill is survived by his three children whom he loved very much: Susan Vartenigian
and her husband Tyler of Glastonbury, CT; Danny Fisher and his wife Shannon of
Richmond, VA; Joshua Fisher and his partner Rachel Quiggins of Bryson City, NC.
He was the proud grandfather to Katie and Luke Vartenigian of Glastonbury, CT;
