Mr. Thomas Franklin Phillips Sr., age 91 of Rome, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, at a local assisted living facility.
Mr. Phillips was born in Calhoun, Georgia on December 11th, 1933, to the late Andrew Terrell Phillips and the late Myrtle Taylor Phillips. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Phillips, A.T. Phillips, and Max Phillips; three sisters, Virginia Brown, Louise Blalock, and Patsy Crump. Mr. Phillips was a United States Veteran, having proudly served in the U.S. Navy, until he was honorably discharged. He began his career as the owner and operator of Phillips Grocery Store in Rome, GA, where he made fond memories including his children in the business day to day operations and interacting with his customers. He then went on to work at Fafnir Bearing Company, where he made many more friends. His career took him last to being a security guard helping several companies. Mr. Phillips was a kindhearted gentleman, who made friends easily, and was known for the love he had for love his family and his country.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline Sanford Phillips; mother of his children, Helen Phillips; one son, Thomas Phillips Jr.; three daughters, Karen Hembree, Linda Varner, and Joan Bailey (Rodney); two step-daughters, Shea Guzman (Fernando) and Teresa Reyes; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
